During Paris Design Week there is a rare chance to attend a couple of fabulous meetings, conferences and exhibitions. One of the most important and interesting events is “Formosa Forms” – exhibition on Taiwanese design at Maison&Objet trade fair in Paris.
The Red Dot Design Museum Essen organises “Formosa Forms – Contemporary Tradition in Taiwanese Design” at the Maison & Objet trade fair in Paris, France. The exhibition documents the current Taiwanese design developments which combine tradition and modernity with selected products by seven national brands. There will be also demonstrated furniture, tableware, accessories, and lamps. The exhibition was commissioned by the Taiwanese Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan Design Center.

As it is well-known, IT and bicycle industries are the main ones that make Taiwan extremely popular. Taiwan ranks among the world market leaders in the product design sector. However, there are also other creative fields which stand out with design quality and have not been discovered yet: artful tableware, sculptural home accessories and stylish furniture. With well-shaped and elaborate products, Taiwanese designers and manufacturers produce modern interpretations of their cultural roots. Without realising the origins, millions of people around the globe use the products from the insular state in the Western Pacific, which was formerly known as “Ilha Formosa” (beautiful island).

The second part of the “Formosa Forms” exhibition series grants insights into contemporary tradition in Taiwanese design by showcasing finely shaped products of seven Taiwanese brands. The up-to-date exhibits prove both the contrast and the symbiosis of tradition and modernity and illustrate the present design understanding in Taiwan.
