The name New Secret was an appropriate choice since the details of the yacht were revealed just before the show took place. Even during the show, it was extremely hard to get information about the new Amels 242 Limited Edition because it had already been delivered to its owners before the show.
Even the photos were hard to get a hold of, with Winch Design (the yacht, aviation, and architecture design firm responsible for New Secret’s interior design) just now receiving permission to release the shots.
The photos show the level of creativity, detail, and craftsmanship that goes into building a 242-foot private yacht that’s been designed to accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 cabins (in addition to up to 19 crew members).
A wall in the main saloon has rings of mineral crystal, a very delicate and fragile material, with a glass-like, pearly and translucent quality. The grand central staircase wall is made up of golden agate slices. While the staircase, that’s designed to look like a seashell spiralling upward, is lit from below to highlight the structure from the inside.
“The owners wished to give pride of place to their private collection of 20th Century art, right from the start, the collection formed an integral element in the design of each space, however, you never get the sense that you are in a gallery. Beneath the surface, there is depth and richness to the design, with detailed natural rhythms and forms: floors are variable-width oak with variable tones; one-piece tread/risers in the stairwell. The ‘scalloped’ surface signature is echoed delicately in the ceiling, window reveals, stair handrails and mullions.” said Jim Dixon from Winch Design.
But what do the owners feel after years of collaborating with teams of designers and builders? Meanwhile, Rose Damen, AMELS Commercial Director, tries to explain. “After the Monaco Yacht Show, my family and I spent three days on board as guests of the owners,” she says. “Witnessing first-hand how much they enjoyed her made us very proud. While recognizing that the most distinguishing factor in the result has been the owners themselves. Their vision and great dedication to this project were truly exceptional. As was their uniquely intense collaboration with Winch Design.”
