The luxury fashion brands that have banned fur – The list of fur-free luxury designers is getting longer every day so we give you a list of the fashion designers that have banned the use of animal fur including Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Armani, Hugo Boss and more. Joh Vinding, chairman of the Fur Free Alliance, once said: “makes it clear that designers and consumers can have creative freedom and luxury, all without supporting animal cruelty”.

Michael Kors has announced in December that they will no longer use animal fur. The new policy will be companywide and cover both the luxury fashion company meaning it will also include Jimmy Choo line. “Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur. We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February” Michael Kors said.

Hugo Boss

Hugo Boss dropped in 2016 the use of fur, the ban also applies to all forms of real furs, such as mink and fox. “Today, we are therefore also successfully supplying “friendly fur” and “friendly leather” products. We want to use these products to inspire the present generation and especially the next generation with a new kind of luxury,” Bernd Keller. With its fur-free policy, Hugo Boss follows a quality and sustainability, particularly animal protection, philosophy.

One of the first fashion brands dropping the use of fur, the fashion house Ralph Lauren dropped all fur from its clothing lines in 2007, removing fur from all of its merchandise and home collections. “Ralph Lauren clothes have always been elegant, but now you can feel comfortable inside and out knowing that the company has made this compassionate decision,” Ingrid Newkirk, PETA.

Stella McCartney is a lifelong vegetarian and pioneer of non-leather shoes and handbags. She has been one of the most high-profile advocates of fur-free fashion, having committed to never use animal products in her collections that are full of synthetic pelts. “Modern fake fur looks so much like real fur, that the moment it leaves the atelier no one can tell it’s not the real thing. And I’ve struggled with that. But I’ve been speaking to younger women about it recently and they don’t even want real fur” she said.

Vivienne Westwood

One of the fashion brands that have banned fur is Vivienne Westwood, the renowned British designer announced in 2007 that she is no longer use any fur in her future clothing lines. Westwood renounced fur after meeting with Peta and donated the remaining fur items in her line to Peta.

In October, Gucci also announced that they were ditching fur. The brand will stop all use of animal fur including mink, coyote, racoon dog, fox, rabbit, karakul, and all other species specially bred or caught for fur. “Do you think using furs today is still modern? I don’t think it’s still modern and that’s the reason why we decided not to do that. It’s a little bit out-dated, ” Marco Bizarri, CEO. Gucci is just the latest luxury brand to ban the use of fur, following Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger.

Tommy Hilfiger permanently dropped fur from their collections, stopped producing clothes with the material since 2007. Tommy is part of the ranks of other luxury brands who refuse to use real fur in their collections. Many customers are opting for fur-free brands in opposition to the fur industry.

Armani joins Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren in switching to synthetic alternatives. “Technological progress made over the years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use of cruel practices unnecessary as regards animals,” Giorgio Armani. The Armani group, which includes catwalk labels Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, AJ Armani Jeans and Armani Casa, is fur-free since the fall/winter 2016 collection.
