CovetED meets Patrick Jouin at Paris Design Studio

In Paris CovetED Magazine was on tour during Maison et Objet 2016. Great experience was waiting for us at design studio of the top interior designer Patrick Jouin.

Patrick Jouin is a designer whose creativity finds an expression in industrial design for the decorative arts. The designer collaborates with Cassina, Kartell, Alessi, Puiforcat, JC Decaux or Fermob. Also, he is designing for exceptional projects. Many of his creations are in the permanent collections of museums worldwide, including the “Solid” collection at MOMA. Patrick Jouin is also involved in interior design projects with his partner Sanjit Manku, within the agency Jouin Manku founded in 2006.

In view of Patrick Jouin, interior design is a new playground, new book or a theater set where we may invent a new story. Being inspired all the time by the thing that he touches or sees, the whole process creates the important emotion useful for design.
The style and purpose of the designer is to take care of the context and not repeat himself. He needs to reinvent himself. One of his greatest accomplishments is the first chair made by rapid prototyping.

Patrick Jouin was lucky to answer to his emotion and intuition saying that he had to do something with this technology. Regarding the recent projects, he is designing Montparnasse railway station. There will be 68 new subway stations around Paris and he is designing all the objects.

A piece of advice for future generation of designers consists in not lying to ourselves. If you like to do certain things, you have to go in this direction. It is all about understanding who you are, as a designer. What you like and what you do not!
