It’s incredible how sometimes inspiration is just around the corner, a few miles away. We wanted to share with you one of the latest projects of Jordi Hidalgo Tané architecture studio, they extended a small stone building with an underground corridor that leads to a concrete annexe… just by reading this don’t you think it’s amazing? The original building is located in the rural Navarra, Spain, becoming the centre of attention around the fantastic landscape that surrounds it. Follow CovetED by scrolling down, we want to tell you more!
It was necessary to understand the whole landscape in order to do all the planning of this work. Taking that into account, the extension has been hidden next to the hillside, supporting a large living, dining and kitchen area and sits across from the original building.
“To work in this exceptional location is an exercise of respect to the fragile building and especially to the mystical power of the Navarra mountains, rich in history and legends,” pointed the architect, Jordi Hidalgo Tané.

Breathtaking is a word that accompanies us as we travel through this never-before-seen corridor, the views promise to be astonishing. Like all the care is little, the form of the attachment is equivalent to the structure of the hill and its green roof extends to shelter an external terrace with an outdoor oven. As you can see, the annexe is lined by an amazing curtain wall of glazing that runs along its length.
The areas in the annexe are solid and invite their guests to stay with neutral colours, simplicity and wood for the fire. At the back of the space, the kitchen and storage areas are dug further into the hillside, with rustic looking cabinets feeling more than right. The floor level steps up at the end of the living area to match that of the stone building.

When going up the wooden and black steeled stairs to the top floor we can discover four bedrooms, each one equipped with the respective bathroom. The interior contrasts with the exterior materials in order to provide a very interesting colour and texture balance. Get inspired by CovetED.
