Eliminating the distinction between craft and industry, the ‘Knotted Chair’ unites conflicting aspects, methods and materials in order to surprise and innovate. Combining hand-crafted tactile design with high-tech industrial processes, the design begins with an aramid braided cord around a carbon fibre core that is manipulated in the traditional technique of macramé to form the shape of the chair.
Marcel Wanders’s Airborne Snotty Vase is a compelling and humorous example of the creative possibilities enabled by digital fabrication methods, such as high-tech scanning and printing techniques. Here Wanders aimed to create beauty out of the grotesque by giving visual form to the shape of a human sneeze.
The V.I.P. chair was specially designed for the World Expo 2000 in Hanover. The colourful members were the inhabitants of the spectacular Royal Wing Room on top of the Dutch Pavilion. Now the V.I.P. chair is a part of the Moooi collection.
Based on a prototype by Pot that Wanders helped develop into an industrially produced piece of furniture – is woven from strands of carbon fibre impregnated with epoxy resin to create a strong and light structure.

It is a footrest with an original and linear design, which reminds the natural massive shape of a smooth rock. Chubby Low increases the initial ideal of the exclusive Crochet Chair, with only 20 all over the world.
The story behind the chair is derived from how wanders foresees his death, picturing it as a dramatic ending – a combination of some pain and wild music. but then, a long period of silence…
Marcel Wanders has created a dinner service for Dutch airline KLM. The project involved creating new porcelain, glassware, cutlery, linen and a tray.
The three independent modules that compose it, interlock like a puzzle and give life to three different seats: a chaise longue, an armchair or a pouffe. Each module is manufactured in high-tech carbon fibre to be both exceptionally light and strong and is then upholstered in rich, soft leather on the outside and suede on the inside.
How often have we longed for a special container in which to store our most treasured keepsakes? In which to present a gift or, simply, to store small desk accessories neatly? Marcel Wanders offers us an original solution, designing a series of storage containers.
The Mondrian Doha in Qatar (2017) is a five-star destination designed by Marcel Wanders and operated by the global hospitality company SBE, drawing on local knowledge and exhibiting innovative materials and techniques. Each space possesses its own identity, allowing guests to form a collection of stories woven with a main theme that runs throughout.
