The new pieces unite Baroque Roman art with the tropical Brazilian way of life: the Melissa Barroca + Irmãos Campana (ballet flat) and the Melissa Barroca Sandal + Irmãos Campana (flip flop). The result of this creative mixture can be noted in the mesh that composes the products. It presents florals, angels and wings – elements that are associated with iron and bronze Italian works – and animals, such as lizards, insects and birds – that make reference to the Brazilian fauna. Aside from that, the texture is also composed of fun and novel elements like barrettes, scissors, screws, sprints and metallic mesh, integrated into the design to serve as symbols of contemporary art.

The Baroque collection comes to be from the mix between Roman Baroque and the tropical style of Brazil. The idea was to create an organic language among the tradition of a culture and the perspective of a new country through the fusion of ornaments of the past with contemporary elements”, says Fernando and Humberto Campana.

This is not the first time that the reknowned Brazilian designers work with art from the 17th to the 18th centuries. In 2011, the team presented, in partnership with Galleria O Roma, a luxurious collection of furniture with a contemporary Baroque look and style, named “Brazilian Baroque” that was exhibited at the Palazzo Pamphilj, the Brazilian Embassy in Rome. This first collection paved the way for a second and third, also produced in partnership with Galleria O Roma: “Baroque Rococó”, presented in 2012 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and “Dangerous Luxury”, presented in 2014 at the Place du Casino, Le Sporting d’Hiver, in Monaco.
