Meet The Limited Edition Lacoste Campaign ‘Save Our Species‘ – The world’s going through an environmental crisis like it has never been seen before. With the rise of unwanted phenomena such as the Climate Change and its consequential rise of the sea level, the ones that suffer the most are the helpless creatures that co-habit this planet with us. To raise awareness about the massive extinction that’s happening in several species, Lacoste decided to throw a limited edition campaign, entitled ‘Save Our Species’.  Join CovetED Magazine and find out more about the French Luxury brand‘s noble initiative.

Lacoste has swapped its distinctive crocodile logo for one of 10 threatened animal species on a series of limited-edition polo shirts, designed to bring attention to the global state of biodiversity. The limited edition Lacoste x Save Our Species polo shirts, which feature endangered animals such as the Sumatran Tiger and the Anegada Rock Iguana in place of the famous crocodile, were launched during the brand’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week on 1 March 2018 and sold out immediately.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature joins Lacoste for the limited collaboration, which centres around 10 threatened species and limits the number of shirts produced to each critter’s population sizes. Anegada’s ground iguana is the most population-rich critter of the group with a mere 450 animals left alive, while only 30 vaquitas — porpoises found in the Gulf of California — remain in the world. Lacoste aims to raise societal awareness by replacing its recognizable crocodile branding with the animals, relegating the crocodile to the rear of the white shirts instead. Profits from the collaboration will benefit the IUCN as it fights to ensure the survival of the 10 animal breeds.

Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be donated to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a 70-year-old international organisation working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

The Save Our Species collaboration, which was initiated by French advertising agency BETC, will help the charity to coordinate frontline projects worldwide in order to help ensure the long-term survival of threatened species, their habitats and the people who depend on them.

“The Lacoste crocodile is one of the world’s most iconic logos, proudly displayed on the brand’s famous polos for the past 85 years,” said the Lacoste in a statement. “For the first time in the brand’s history, BETC has initiated a change of the logo.”
